META Alerts

SEO Engine™ provides a number of alerts based off of META information, Market Focus™ , URL Spelling, Orphaned Webpages, Link Neighborhoods, and much more.

Duplicate/Missing META Titles

SEO Engine™ provides missing, duplicate, and out of bounds META Title Alerts for each Webpage. If a Webpage’s META Title is missing, if it is duplicated with other Webpage’s META Titles, or if it is too long for a Search Engine, an alert will be displayed on that Webpage’s Scoresheet. In addition, each alert is a drill-down item which can display detailed information about that alert.

In an effort to rank high for several keywords and phrases, it is a good practice to always maintain unique META titles. Search Engines will place a penalty on Webpages with duplicate META data in an effort to display only one of these Webpages in their organic results, all things remaining equal.

META data is very important to Search Engines. The title is the most important and significant of all the META data. Because they are so important, META Titles deserve significant attention in your Search Engine Optimization efforts.

META Alerts

META Title Relevancy

The META Title must be relevant to the content of the Webpage. The more relevant and matching keywords contained within your title, the more relevant your title will be considered. A relevant title will help increase your organic rankings.

Duplicate/Missing META Descriptions

SEO Engine™ provides missing, duplicate, and out of bounds META Description Alerts for each Webpage. If a Webpage’s META Description is missing, if it is duplicated with other Webpage’s META Descriptions, or if it is too long for a Search Engine, an alert will be displayed on that Webpage’s Scoresheet. In addition, each alert is a drill-down item which can display detailed information about that alert.

If your Webpages contain duplicate META descriptions, the Webpage will incur a penalty. Describing two Webpages with the same exact description forces the Search Engine to determine which Webpage fits this description the best and which should be displayed to their users.

The META Description on your Webpage should be a descriptive sentence about your content. It should be used to sell your potential visitors to your Webpage when they are reading search results.

META Description Relevancy

Search Engines determine your META description relevancy utilizing latent semantic indexing, multivariate shingle analysis, and other sophisticated and intelligent algorithms. If your description does not contain the same keywords and relevant phrases to your content, you may incur a penalty.

Duplicate/Missing META Keywords

SEO Engine™ no longer provides missing, duplicate, and out of bounds META Keywords Alerts for each Webpage. Search Engines have widely dropped support for the META Keywords tag, and therefore SEO Engine has removed this unneccessary information from its Search Engine.

META Keyword Relevancy

SEO Engine™ no longer provides relevancy data for META Keywords. Search Engines have widely dropped support for the META Keywords tag, and therefore SEO Engine has removed this unneccessary information from its Search Engine.

Duplicate Market Focus Alerts

SEO Engine™ provides duplicate Market Focus™ Alerts for each Webpage. If a Webpage’s Market Focus™ is duplicated with other Webpage’s Market Focus™, an alert will be displayed on that Webpage’s Scoresheet. In addition, each alert is a drill-down item which can display detailed information about that alert.

Search Engines utilize multivariate shingle analysis to determine the Market Focus of a Website. If you have several Webpages with a duplicate Market Focus, it makes the task of determining which one of those Webpages is the most important and relevant Webpage to be presented to the user very hard on a Search Engine. In addition, Search Engines have recognized that having many Webpages with the same Market Focus is indicative of various spamming techniques. Use this opportunity as the Webmaster to focus Webpages on the "long tail of search" and other supporting phrases. Remember, you do not need much Link Flow® if you have a unique or non-competitive Market Focus. By duplicating Market Focus, you may be diluting the ability for other Webpages to stand out.

Vital Statistics

Duplicate Content

When you conduct a search, you do not want to see the same information twice. Neither do the Search Engines. If you have duplicate content on your Webpage, you should write new and unique content to avoid this penalty.

Missing ALT Text

We all like colorful and informative images. Search Engines can't view images however, and therefore you need to provide what is called an "ALT tag" to each image so the Search Engines know what the image is depicting. This is not a place for keyword stuffing, as this will result in a penalty. Be precise and descriptive while including important and relevant keywords if possible. If the image is used as a Link, the ALT text will be used in place of the Anchortext. Note: SEO Engine™ penalizes Webpages with missing ALT Text within a Link.

Missing Header Tags

Header tags are a great opportunity to give structure to your Webpage and value to your important keywords. It tells Search Engines where to find the most important content, as well as how the document is laid out. If this is missing, the Webpage will incur a penalty.

Unique Words

Search Engines prefer Webpages with a lot of (unique and relevant) content. If you have a penalty in this category, note the Penalty Score. This is the number of words currently on the corresponding Webpage. You will need to increase the number of words on this Webpage to eliminate the penalty associated with not having enough content.

Average Word Length

Search Engines interpret word length as a measure of education. Short or imprecise words are not favored and viewed as being written less intelligently. Your text should include longer words if you incur a penalty here.

Orphaned Webpages

SEO Engine™ provides an alert whenever a Webpage is Orphaned. This is typically due to an External Incoming Link pointing to the Webpage, even though a clear path from the Home Page is not present (a user entering the Website would never be able to reach the Webpage). Fixing Orphaned Webpages can enable External Incoming Link Flow® to reach the main Website’s Link Flow®, and also allow users to reach the Webpage once they have entered the Website.

Duplicate URL Spellings

SEO Engine™ provides duplicate Spelling Alerts for each Webpage. If a Webpage’s URL is spelled the same but in different capitalization, an alert will be displayed on that Webpage’s Scoresheet. This is typically due to either having two versions of the same URL, or there is a link pointing to the URL using a different capitalization. In addition, each alert is a drill-down item which can display detailed information about that alert.

Although many web servers are case-insensitive (like Microsoft-based ASP, ASP.NET), Search Engines view all URL paths as case-sensitive. Therefore, the URL:

http://www.myurl.com/HELLO.htm

is NOT the same as the URL:

http://www.myurl.com/hello.htm

A situation such as this causes improper Link Flow® and duplicate content penalties, which SEO Engine™ can help you prevent.

Competition By Webpage's Market Focus™

SEO Engine™ alerts the customer to whenever a particular Webpage has too many competing Webpages on the Internet. This allows the customer to alter the Webpage to focus on a less competitive market.

Unnatural Keyword Stuffing Alerts

SEO Engine™ provides alerts whenever it feels that a particular Webpage is attempting to use a particular word or phrase in a manner that is inconsistent with natural copywriting. Search Engines will typically filter out these words like a “Stop Word”, or a word that is ignored in the computation of the Webpage’s relevancy and importance.

SEO Engine, like other top Search Engines utilizes statistic deviation analysis to determine overuse of words. In the past, replicating your keywords often in an effort to increase keyword density was a method Webmasters used to increase organic results. Most Search Engine optimization tools and software applications still rely on this obsolete method of determining your keyword density, but with SEO Engine (like most modern Search Engines), often this results in keyword stuffing and penalties. If SEO Engine warns of a penalty in this category, you should decrease the repetition of keywords and phrases you have several times on your Webpage.

Outbound Link "Bad Neighborhood" Alerts™

Outbound Link Bad Neighborhood Alerts™ are given when SEO Engine™ determines that there are a large majority of Links going to un-trusted Webpages and/or Websites. What a Webpage links to is very important, as it is a good indicator to a Search Engine of the quality of trust a particular Webpage has.

Inbound Link "Bad Neighborhood" Alerts™

Inbound Link Bad Neighborhood Alerts™ are given when SEO Engine™ determines that there are a large majority of Links coming from un-trusted Webpages and/or Websites. While not as important as Outbound Link Bad Neighborhood Alerts™, if un-trusted sources are the majority of your Links, then Search Engines will typically group you into that neighborhood of Webpages.
