New Search Engine Unveils Duplicate Content Indicator for Websites

The SEO Engine™ has a new addition to its Internet Marketing Tools - the latest features provide valuable insight into just how hard developing unique content really is for any Website.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) January 17, 2011 -- The SEO Engine recently announced a new feature that may change the way Website owners add new content in the future. This new type of SEO Software, called a "Transparent Search Engine", enables users to dive into the "back end" of a Search Engine, and explore how a Search Engine views and scores content on a Website.

"Similar to Google, Bing, and Yahoo!, the SEO Engine has a powerful Correlation Engine inside that can measure the amount of overlap that one Webpage has with another," says Scott Allen Stouffer, President of Technology at the SEO Engine. "By using the SEO Engine interface, you can literally view a snapshot of the overlapping words between any two Webpages, as well as view the top 20 most correlated documents for each Webpage. In addition, like other Search Engines, we have added this as a signal in our Scoring Algorithm which penalizes a Webpage for having too much Duplicate Content."

Conveniently, the SEO Engine has added a new indicator on its Webpage Scorecard screens, called the "Max % MATCHED Duplicate Content", which can result in Search Engine penalties if too high. Each Webpage has one of these screens inside the SEO Engine. Stouffer indicates that "typical correlations are in the neighborhood of 30-40%, due to common features like a header, footer, and navigational bar. This is okay. That level of correlation is overlooked by Search Engines, including ours."

When asked what causes major Duplicate Content issues, Stouffer replied, "there are two big reasons why this happens. The first reason is that the Webpage does not have enough content. When the majority of the content is the header, footer, and navigation bar, the correlation spikes to near 90%-100%. The other cause is when a Website owner conducts a campaign to add an abundance of new content. The more content you add, the more likely that you are duplicating phrases and ideas throughout the Website. Without verifying this new content through the SEO Engine, you may be wasting your efforts."

Website owners must be very careful when adding new content. Search Engines have historically penalized Webpages and even entire Websites if the duplication gets out of hand. "We have had customers come to us saying that their entire Website has been banned by Google, and they want to know why," says Stouffer. "One look at the Internet Marketing Data for this Website tells the all-to-common story - the Webpages aren't unique enough."
